Pray and Support the Clergy

Christians should ensure that they pray and support the clergy, a Kenyan Catholic bishop has said.

Bishop Virgilio Pante of Maralal Diocese said this on October 30 during the deaconate ordination ceremony at the Consolata Shrine in Nairobi where he presided over the mass.

Bishop Pante said that newly ordained priests need a lot of prayers and support to manage the religious life ahead of them and described priesthood as a gift from God.

“But we must ensure that those admitted in the religious life are fully supported and prayed for,” he stressed.

The bishop called on the newly ordained deacons to commit their lives fully to their new religious life and reminded them that new life had challenges to face.

However, he assured them that prayers and hard work will see them through.

The bishop also thanked the parents of the new deacons for allowing their sons to join religious life.

During the colourful ceremony, ten seminarians, seven from Consolata and three from the Passionists Missionary Society were ordained deacons.

Among those who attended the ordination include: Regional Superior of Consolata Missionaries, Fr. Franco Cellana, Vice Superior of the Passionists, Fr. Nicholas Obiero, Mozambique High Commissioner to Kenya, Manuel Goncalves and the Colombian Ambassador to Kenya, Maria Victoria Diaz.

The newly ordained deacons were drawn from Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Colombia.
