ACRONYMS – THE WORLD OF WORDS AND OUR REALITY.

ACRONYMS – THE WORLD OF WORDS AND OUR REALITY.

An acronym is an abbreviation formed from the initial components in a phrase or a word. These components may be individual letters (as in laser) or parts of words (as in Benelux and Ameslan). There is no universal agreement on the precise definition of various names for such abbreviations (see nomenclature) nor on written usage (see orthographic styling). In English and most other languages, such abbreviations historically had limited use, but they became much more common in the 20th century. Acronyms are a type of word formation process, and they are viewed as a subtype of blending.

Michael - Behind the name

Michael

Michael
Michael /ˈmkəl/, also occasionally Micheal, is a masculine given name that comes from the Hebrew: מִיכָאֵל / מיכאל‎ (Mīkhā'ēl, pronounced [miχaˈʔel]), derived from the question מי כאל mī kā'ēl) meaning "Who is like God?"  (Literally, "Who is like El?). In English, it is sometimes shortened to Mike, Mikey, Mickey, or Mick.

Female forms of Michael include Michèle, Michelle, Michaela, Mechelle, Micheline, and Michaelle, although Michael is occasionally seen as a female name, with women named Michael including actresses Michael Learned and Michael Michele. Another form is Mychal, which can either be a male or female name.

A Short History of St. Michael's Cathedral

St. Michael's Cathedral, situated in the heart of Toronto, is the principal church of Canada's largest English-speaking Catholic archdiocese. A sanctuary of quiet prayer in the midst of the city's busy sidewalks and streets, this venerable edifice is a link to the early days of the metropolis and the scene and witness of many solemn ceremonies.

When the Cathedral was first planned twenty-two years before Canadian Confederation, the location on the northern section of a market garden which extended down to Lot (Queen) Street was considered "too far" from town. Today, the Cathedral is only a few blocks east of Toronto's ultra-modern City Hall, its financial district, and the Eaton Centre. The cream-coloured brick structure has darkened with age and acquired a tower and graceful steeple, its clear panes have given way to stained-glass works of art, and illustrious leaders have taken up their last sleep in its crypt. Though the Cathedral's interior has been modified several times, enough remains of its original dimension and style to proclaim the vision of its builders and the generosity of its supporters.

Saint Michael the Archangel
Feast Day: September 29

As the name implies, St. Michael the Archangel, the Prince of Spiritual Warfare. In devotion to him and the Blessed Mother who has been given the authority to crush Satan's head, we seek the will of God as spiritual warriors in His army.

Saint Michael is the protector of the Church . The Church, as far back as the fourth century, has paid special honor to the glorious Archangel Michael, whom in her liturgy she invokes as "Prince of the heavenly host." His name is the war cry with which he smote Lucifer and his proud followers and cast them out of heaven into the depths of hell. His name means: Who is like God?
