Bob Ryan would describe it as a passion, an obsession, a romance, a nice acquaintanceship with trees, sand, and water. And for sure it is when it comes to playing “The Golf”.

The Consolata 18^th annual Golf tournament attracted nearly 100 golfers this year for a day and the only sunny shinning one of the third week of September. The event took place on Wednesday, September 17^th, 2014 at Woodington lake golf club, Tottenham, Ontario, proudly sponsored by PREMFORM LTD among others. The day was sunny and hot clear, with some cool breezes in the evening.

The event attracted more than 35 other sponsors and various donors. The day included lunch and concluded with a nice dinner and a reception with awards raffles and prizes presented.

The Consolata Missionaries in Toronto, Canada, with the aim of supporting missions and missionary projects in and outside Canada, organize some events (the Consolata Canada Club events) of which their proceeds go to the intended missions. The C3 (Consolata Canada Club events) are celebrated annually, just to mention: Blessed Joseph Allamano day, the Passover supper, the spring fashion show, the Consolata day, the Mission Sunday, the Consolata pasta lunch and the golf tournament among others.

The Consolata Missionaries in Toronto and the C3-Consolata Canada Club "Golf Committee" would like to thank all our sponsors and the silent donors, players and volunteers for their support in making the 18^th Annual Golf tournament a great success and with invaluable contribution to the missions!

N.B: Founded in 1901(priests and brothers) and in 1910 (sisters) by Blessed Joseph Allamano in Turin, Italy, the Consolata Missionaries now count with about one thousand members (priests and brothers) working in 27 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and America.

            People’s intuition is that learning more about a new acquaintance will lead to greater liking. In fact, on average, we like other people less the more we know about them. And occasionally we do actually meet people who turn out to be similar to us, who end up as our close friends or even partners. It’s these relationship hits that we tend to remember when meeting someone new rather than all the times we were disappointed. As some studies show, on the vast majority of occasions the less we know about someone the more we are inclined to like them. It’s like the fake student in Moreland and Beach’s study, ambiguity allows us to imagine that other people share our world-view, our personality traits or our sense of humour. Unfortunately as soon as we start to find out more about them, we’re likely to find out how different they are to ourselves and, as a result, to dislike them. Long experience of someone or something can make one so aware of the faults as to be scornful. For example, Ten years at the same job and now he hates it—familiarity breeds contempt. The idea is much older, but the first recorded use of this expression was in Chaucer's Tale of Melibee (c. 1386).

Rich or Poor?

In the song “If Were a Rich Man” from the movie “Fiddler on the Roof,” the main character dreams of the advantages of being rich, one of which is that, he imagines, people would come to him seeking wisdom. He says to himself: “And it won’t make one bit of difference if I answer right or wrong. When you’re rich, they think you really know!” The sad implication is that no one pays attention to a poor man.

The Two Sides of the coin...

We talk of the two sides of a coin; so does life. On one side, life is day-to-day drudgery, full of failed dreams and shattered hopes. On the other side, life contains moments of joy, peace and sense of purpose. This Sunday's readings examine both sides of the coin, but leave us with no doubt about upon which side to base our lives. The first reading from Job touches unerringly upon every phase of life's dark side. The other two readings look at the other side of the coin. In basing our lives on Christ, our pain, taken in faith, becomes part of our journey. Our sorrow sees a new day dawning. How is your experience of failure like what Job went through? How do you handle such situations in life?

ELEMENTOS BÁSICOS DA TEORIA DO PERDÃO E DA RECONCILIAÇÃO

PRÓLOGO

A Fundação para a Reconciliação desenvolve seus projetos de intervenção social e investigação na Colômbia, contribuindo assim com os esforços que cidadãos e cidadãs realizam para o advento da paz no mundo. Hoje a Colômbia partilha com a República irmã do Brasil planos metodológicos e linhas de investigação, e avança-se na organização de uma rede latino-americana de informação e cooperação no campo do Perdão e da Reconciliação interpessoal, comunitário e social.

Em Bogotá (Colômbia), populariza-se uma experiência de Perdão e Reconciliação interpessoal denominada ESPERE (Escolas de Perdão e Reconciliação), como uma contribuição importante em favor da construção da Paz na Colômbia. A violência social e a violência armada semearam raivas e rancores na vida dos colombianos, rancores que devem ser compreendidos e tratados pelos diferentes conhecimentos que procuram imaginar mundos possíveis de amizade e solidariedade, de justiça e paz, mundos em que a vida cotidiana possa ser vivida sem duelos.

A novidade da Fundação para a Reconciliação consiste na introdução de um método de trabalho referente ao Perdão e à Reconciliação interpessoal, que reforça poderosamente os planos de mediação, arbitragem e conciliação, trabalhando de forma direta ódios, rancores e desejos de vingança que, quando não tratados, chegam a converter-se em sementes de novos e mais graves conflitos.
